a wander round the Heygate
i was on assignment for Southwark Council today – photographing the Elephant regeneration area. Whilst looking for alternative spots to shoot from I came across a concrete walkway leading into this derelict estate. Â Wandered around for ages, and got rather a chill I discovered on arriving home and finding it absolutely impossible to get warm. Â I took absolutely tons of pictures, would be nice to go back again and spend a bit more time looking for the less obvious stuff, whatever might be going on under the surface, and of course it’ll all be gone soon, it will be good to have a record of the changing face of South London. Â I know the Heygate design is crazy modernism, and probably hell to live in, but I find the concrete and the walkways very satisfying. Â It’s still buzzing in a way, it’s crawling with photographers, plus a lady walking two pugs at dusk, some guys doing parkour, the chap who lives right in the middle of the place, who I presume is something to do with the ‘Heygate Regeneration Scheme’ and a couple of Latvians drinking themselves silly… Â My kind of place.
